BRET MICHAELS: It 'Would Be Great' For POISON To Play Select 30th-Anniversary Shows

Bret Michaels has said in a new interview that it "would be great" for POISON to do "select dates" this summer to celebrate the band's 30th anniversary.

POISON appeared at the 2013 Indy 500 Miller Lite Carb Day, but has otherwise been mostly playing private shows, including one this past January. The band's last major dates were with LITA FORD and DEF LEPPARD as part of the 2012 "Rock Of Ages" tour.

Michaels is continuing to focus on his solo career and recently released the video for "Girls On Bars", his new rock-and-country-crossover track which was written with Grammy Award-winning songwriter Luke Laird.

Speaking about his current relationship with his POISON bandmates, Michaels told Las Vegas Magazine: "My best buddies in POISON — this is a true story — we grew up together. We loved playing music together, we had a lot of battles, things that we fought against, and I'll never forget that. I'll always remember that. But the truth of the matter is, as a solo artist, there are a lot of things I'd like to do that I get a chance to do, instruments I get to play onstage, stuff that I can change."

He continued: "I think with POISON, there is no doubt I still feel blessed to be friends with these guys. We still do a lot of touring together. We'll co-headline with DEF LEPPARD or MÖTLEY [CRÜE], or go out there with [LYNYRD] SKYNYRD or KISS and do great shows, but the bottom line is as you go along with the band, different guys want different things."

Michaels added: "I think that POISON, if you were to ask us directions to some place, we're four guys that would give you four completely different sets of directions but we'd all end up in the same area. So the chemistry worked, and the chemistry works with my solo band in the same way. There's a great energy there, and, like I said, most of the dates I'll do will continue to be solo, but the POISON stuff I think would be great for this summer to have select dates for the 30th anniversary, and then the 31st year it would be great to go out with DEF LEPPARD again or go back on the road with KISS or AEROSMITH, or so something amazing."

Bret also revealed that POISON was "supposed to do" a Las Vegas residency last year, adding that "we wanted to do that." He went on to say: "I think POISON would blow that away. I think with our show and our ability… again, it's two things. You want your visual show to be good, but you still gotta have it in your heart, and passion as a person to make the show great. That would be the best of both worlds."

He continued: "I would love to do that for a couple of weeks, so hopefully we can work that out."

POISON drummer Rikki Rockett told Big Music Geek earlier in the year about the band's current status: "It's been frustrating during the past few years because we [POISON] haven't been working very much at all. We've done a lot of corporate shows, but that's it, really, so that's been getting frustrating because I do like to record, I do like to create and make music and all of that kind of stuff."

Rikki added: "Bret hasn't really wanted to work with us on an equal basis for quite some time…. He's the one that's been busy and has been less than willing to work with us on different things."
